It’s #TimeToEndBreastCancer. Since it’s the most common form of cancer in women worldwide, almost everyone knows someone touched by it, and the need for a cure is more important than ever. That’s why every year during breast cancer awareness month, we help support cruelty free breast cancer research* with our limited-edition hand relief™ moisturizing creme. We’ll share how your purchase of this special hand relief™ can help, plus provide tips for early detection and leading a healthy lifestyle.
This is a cause close to our heart: the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 by Evelyn H. Lauder, daughter-in-law of Estee Lauder who in turn founded our parent company. BCRF is the only national organization strictly dedicated to funding clinical and genetic research on breast cancer at medical institutions across the country.
Aveda’s donations to BCRF from limited-edition hand relief™ purchases and other fundraising activities are used to fund cruelty free research exploring environmental causes and links to breast cancer, such as exposure to toxic chemicals and pollutants. We’re proud to support BCRF and their life-saving work every year.
For 2020, our limited-edition hand relief™ moisturizing creme features our iconic cherry almond pure-fume™ aroma. We added this sweet floral scent to our 97% naturally derived** ultra-rich creme, which intensely moisturizes dry skin. This luxe creme is formulated with andiroba oil and other plant hydrators, which help infuse skin with nourishment for soft, supple hands. It’s also formulated for all skin types so everyone can experience its deep hydration.
Much more than a body care essential, our limited-edition hand relief™ offers a way to contribute to this important cause. When you shop our limited-edition hand relief™ moisturizing creme with cherry almond aroma, $5 from each purchase supports cruelty free breast cancer research.* It helps you not only care for yourself, but helps turn care into a cure for your sister, your best friends and anyone you love.
Breast cancer health tips
Did you know that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime?*** Although there are different breast cancer causes, we know that early detection can save lives, and in fact breast cancer that's detected early and localized has a 98% cure rate.† Simple lifestyle changes and regular doctors’ visits can also make all the difference in keeping your body healthy.
Here are some tips for healthy living and early detection:
KNOW YOUR BODY
It’s easy to do a self breast exam at home; examine your breasts regularly and report any changes to your physician.
Make sure you see your doctor regularly for breast exams in your 20’s and 30’s. This can be one of the best ways to detect breast cancer symptoms. Mammograms are vital if you are 40 years or older, or even younger if you are high-risk; be sure to see your doctor annually for this exam.
Try to eat more vegetables and fruits. Their fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients can help. Smoothies can be a great (and delicious!) way to increase your daily intake.
Limit your alcohol intake and toast to a healthier life.
Incorporate more exercise into your lifestyle. Even taking a daily walk can help your mental and physical health. To reduce your risk of breast cancer, the American Cancer Society recommends 45 to 60 minutes of intentional physical activity for 5 or more days a week.
