YOUR 5-MINUTE

SUMMER HAIR STYLE:

UPGRADE THE BRAID

TRUST US, YOU CAN DO IT!

Summer is all about keeping your hair styles low-maintenance and casual-cool. When the humidity or heat index skyrockets, wearing your hair up and off your neck is key, but a basic ponytail can get boring day after day. Enter our friend Sarah Naslund, an Aveda Artist and educator who specializes in updos. Don’t be afraid of the word “updo” either, because Sarah’s here to show you that cute summer looks CAN be easy and take just five minutes out of your day!

“I could do this all day!” Sarah says.

THE ROPE BRAID

“You can do this style with any type of braid, and it works for casual days off or more formal events.”

Step 1: Prep your clean, dry hair with a little bit of Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil for slip.
Step 2: Pull hair back from your face and begin to braid it straight back, French or otherwise. Feel free to customize the look of your braid to suit your hair type.
Step 3: Once you’ve finished your braid, secure it with a small elastic.
Step 4: Hide the end of the braid by twisting it into a bun and pinning. If you’ve got short hair, simply tuck it into the base of the braid instead.
Step 5: Gently tug on the braid to loosen it and spray with Air Control or Control Force to hold it in place. Done and done!

THE BUBBLE BRAID

The bubble braid is an easy twist on your go-to ponytail, and perfect for long hair.

Step 1: Prep with Shampure Dry Shampoo for texture and Light Elements Smoothing Fluid for slip; this makes your “bubble” easier to create. Start with a single ponytail at the top of your head, leaving most of your hair loose. Feel free to tease hair gently at the crown for extra volume if you like.
Step 2: Create ANOTHER ponytail underneath your first ponytail, including the hair from ponytail 1. You can hide the elastics by wrapping them with extra hair if you want.
Step 3: Pull a few pieces gently from the first ponytail, starting in the middle and then the sides, to make it “bubble.”
Step 4: Continue the “bubble” pattern until your style is to your liking.
Step 5: Finish with Air Control or Brilliant hair spray to hold your look!
