ANTOINETTE BEENDERS

Aveda Senior Vice President of Creative, Global Creative Director

As Senior Vice President of Creative and Global Creative Director of Aveda, Antoinette is responsible for Aveda's professional and consumer advertising campaigns, as well as Aveda's Education collections. A true visionary with a passion for creating arresting visuals and unique style, Antoinette is also in charge of the image development and artistic direction of the Aveda brand. 

Drawing on her extensive experience as an award-winning, world-renowned hair stylist and 2004 British Hairdresser of the Year, Beenders works closely with the world's top photographers, models, and creative talent to develop dynamic concepts and striking images which combine a high-fashion sensibility with an environmental conscience.   

As British Hairdresser of the Year for 2004 and nine-time nominee, Antoinette inspires people all around the world. She is a credible, technical and creative leader in the hairdressing industry-and among Aveda's global salon professionals. Her accolades include the award for London Hairdresser of the Year in 1996 and 1997, and the 1998 IBS Award for "Most Newsworthy Female Hair Designer Worldwide." In 2009 and 2010, Antoinette was nominated as Finalist for the AIPP Best Photographic Collection. She also received the Master Craftsman award for Hairdressing Council UK in 2009, and British Masters award in 2010.  In 2008, Antoinette received her fourth Fellowship of Honors from the British Hairdressing Awards.

Previously Global Creative Director for Aveda, Antoinette oversaw the visual direction of the Aveda brand. She first began working with Aveda in 1997, as a Global Guest Artist and as Creative Director for The Urban Retreat-Harvey Nichols' Aveda Concept Salon in London. In 1999, Beenders' role evolved as Aveda's International Creative Director, where she represented the company globally, in Australia, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Antoinette has worked with numerous celebrity clients and has been featured on TV programs such as "The BBC Style Challenge" and "The Clothes Show," and created the hair for "Burn the Floor," an international dance show designed by Mamma Mia producer Anthony Van Laast.  Her magazine editorial work includes credits for Vogue and Glamour, among many others, and she was named one of London's 13 top hair gurus by the London Evening Standard. Beenders has worked on fashion shows for Prada, Miu Miu, Dolce and Gabbana, Hussein Chalayan, and Clements Ribeiro among others.

Antoinette Beenders currently splits her time between Minnesota and London while maintaining her London salon clientele.

ALLEN RUIZ

North American Styling Director


Allen Ruiz is the owner of Jackson Ruiz SalonSpa based in Austin, Texas, and has worked with Aveda over the last 18 years. As a Global Guest Artist, show lead for New York Fashion Week, Editorial Stylist and an Aveda Purefessional, Allen is a passionate artist who has honed his skill and talent in every facet of the beauty industry. Collaborating on Aveda global campaigns, education collections and manufacturer advisory panels, Allen Ruiz is a pure voice within the industry. Allen has enjoyed many awards, among them 2007 North American Hair Dresser of the Year, and one of Latina Magazine's "Top Ten Latino Hair Stylists in America".
2008 and 2009 North American Makeup Artist of the Year, and Global Educator for Aveda Makeup, Janell Geason is known for her technical expertise as well as her innate ability to connect with and inspire her students. Her celebrity client list is impressive, and her work can be seen in publications such as Elle and Lucky magazines. 

After graduating from Horst Cosmetology School, Janell began her career working in Minneapolis as a hairdresser. Her desire to further explore her creativity led her to pursue makeup as an art form. Janell moved to Europe and worked internationally in the fashion, video and print industry.

Upon returning to the United States, Janell's talent and passion for education, along with her experience, provided her with an opportunity to work for Aveda. As Global Educator for Aveda Makeup, she travels globally to teach professional makeup classes and do stage presentations. Her role includes leading education for Aveda Makeup, collaborating on the creation of seasonal makeup launches, shade animations, products and images. Janell's role also includes facilitating Boot Camp for aspiring Makeup Purefessionals.

In addition, Janell has worked as lead makeup artist at New York Fashion Week, working with many designers. 

As an artist, Janell has the ability to view Aveda Makeup as a business. Her approach to education is to create a learning environment which inspires participants to have a command of Aveda Makeup and return to the salon ready to grow sales and services in the makeup and skin care domains.

Ricardo Dinis joined the Madrid Lifestyle Salon & Spa in 2007 in the role of Aveda Spain Creative Director. Prior to becoming Aveda's Madrid Creative Director, Ricardo was the Creative Director for all of Canada, including the Aveda Academies in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.

Ricardo has participated in high-profile hair shows across the world (including working onstage with Vidal himself, as well as Tim Hartley's "Protégé" in 2007). Ricardo contributes to magazines and television with hair advice and tips and created the Aveda Spring/Summer 2009 Creative Collection in collaboration with Antoinette Beenders.

Ricardo recently joined Aveda Advanced Academy New York as the North American Creative Director for hair cutting.

Professional Colorist Ian Michael Black joined the Aveda Academy in London in 1999 and is recognized around the world for his cutting-edge color techniques. He is passionate about hair color and pays particular attention to techniques.

Ian's demonstrations show that the application of color can change shape and perception of cut, therefore altering the look completely. Ian is an inspirational educator, challenging his students to push the limits of color and view things from different perspectives.

Ian recently joined the North American Team as the Technical Director and is based out of the Aveda Advanced Academy New York.

Global Artistic Director, Textured Hair

"The Aveda community is a very supportive, grounded network. I love that even though Aveda is a beauty brand, the mission is about more than hair, it's about health and heart. I'm very excited to be a part of a company that thinks beyond styling hair," says Tippi Shorter, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Textured Hair.

Tippi Shorter found her calling for hairstyling in her hometown of Long Beach, California. However, she had dreams of bringing her skills and the Hollywood glamour she knew so well to the urban metropolis. In 1995 she headed to New York City with the intent of getting people hooked on her signature big sexy healthy hair.  Tippi began her professional career with Aveda in her first official stylist position at an Aveda Concept Salon in New York City. "I understood then Aveda's dedication to education and customer service, and that never left me within my professional career. So it only makes sense that I have come full circle and will help relay that message to the next generation," says Shorter.

Throughout her career Tippi has always made it a priority to use "green" hair products and the best tools."It's not always about using the newest products," she says, "It's about using the best products for that particular client's hair." Tippi’s attention to detail, catering to each client’s unique hair needs, has made her a leading hairstylist and colorist in the entertainment and beauty industries for the past 15 years.

Since her introduction into the beauty industry, Tippi's hairstyles have topped the shoulders of beauty icons such as Beyonce, Iman, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson, and pop icons including Rihanna and Lady GaGa, among other actresses, musicians, and supermodels.  However, when asked about her career as a well known celebrity hairstylist, Tippi humbly responds, "I am not a celebrity hairstylist. I am a hairstylist who happens to have the opportunity to work with many wonderful celebrities." In addition to her celebrity clientele, her beauty transformations have graced the covers and editorial pages of notable fashion magazines including Elle, Essence, In Style, and Vanity Fair. 

Almost 20 years later, Tippi has joined the Aveda Global Artistic Team. She participates in Aveda events and photo shoots globally and is instrumental in development of curriculum and training for textured and curly hair.
