How does Aveda’s Returnable Shipper Program work?
At Aveda, environmental sustainability guides every decision we make—and our new Returnable Shipper Program is part of that commitment. We’ve partnered with Returnity to create a shipper specifically for our one-litre bottles. Each Returnable Shipper can be reused up to 20 times or more, helping to reduce corrugate packaging weight by at least 89%.*
Customers who are enrolled in our Auto Replenishment program and purchase eligible litres can participate in this exciting new program. Your order will arrive with the returnable shipper from your second replenishment order onwards. All Aveda Auto Replenishment members received an email with an option to opt-in for their next order. If you are currently a member and did not receive this email, or recently became a Auto Replenishment member, you can opt-into the program by clicking here and adding your email on file to join.
By simply opting –in to the program, you will receive your product in our returnable shipper, remove your product once it has arrived, collapse the box, and return it through UPS using the provided return label.

How do I sign up?
Right now, this program is open to customers who are enrolled in our Auto Replenishment program and purchase eligible litres. Your order will arrive with the returnable shipper from your second replenishment order onwards. The option for the returnable shipper will be stored in your account and applied to your next Auto Replenishment Aveda litre order.
What eligible litres qualify for the Returnable Shipper Program?
At this time, eligible litres include rosemary mint purfying shampoo, weightless conditioner & hand and body wash; shampure™ nurturing shampoo, conditioner & hand and body wash; botanical repair™ strengthening shampoo & conditioner; nutriplenish™ shampoo & conditioner light and deep moisture; invati advanced™ exfoliating shampoo light, rich and thickening conditioner; blue malva shampoo; cherry almond softening shampoo & conditioner; color conserve™ shampoo & conditioner; pure abundance™ volumizing shampoo & conditioner; scalp benefits™ balancing shampoo; be curly™ shampoo; brilliant™ shampoo & conditioner; damage remedy™ restructuring shampoo.
Why should I opt-into a returnable shipping box?
We are offering this program to help our customers reduce single use corrugate boxes and become more environmentally responsible through reusable packaging while not compromising the product delivery.
The more consumers that opt-in, the larger impact we will make. Each of us can do our part to create a more sustainable future!
How do I return my box?
The box is pre-loaded with a UPS return label. Simply collapse the box and zip-up. The return label is already in the pocket. When you’re ready, you can schedule a pick-up with UPS.
The locks used to secure the returnable shippers are made with 96% Post-Industrial Recycled (PIR) material. Please help us recover these ties by sending your used lock with your shipper to be recycled.
Should I send my empties back in this box?
No, our boxes are only intended to deliver our products at this time. Please check your recycling regulations through your local municipality for information on how to recycle your Aveda products when you are finished with them.

Can I keep the box?
We’re happy you love this box! As we’re all trying to do our part and limit waste, sending this box back will pay it forward to other Aveda customers and will help us limit the amount of corrugate boxes being used for our deliveries.
My box arrived damaged, what should I do?
We’re sorry to hear this. Please contact customer service at (800) 644-4831 - to let them know. You can still send it back using the pre-loaded UPS return label. Aveda will work with Returnity to properly deconstruct and recycle the box and its components. The locks used to secure the returnable shippers are made with 96% Post-Industrial Recycled (PIR) material. Please help us also recover these ties by sending your used lock with your shipper to be recycled.
I lost my shipping label. What should I do?
Please contact customer service at (800) 644-4831 so they can issue a new label.
How quickly after receiving my package do I have to mail the box back?
Please return your box within two weeks of initial receipt to help us ensure that all registered customers can participate in the program.
Will I be charged a late fee if I don’t return it right away?
There is no cost associated for you to use this box or return it late.

What is the benefit of using the reusable shipper?
Aveda is designing these programs with a holistic view of sustainable options, taking emissions and waste into account. There is less waste associated with this method, and we are leveraging our carrier’s network. Following this pilot, we will be reviewing emissions reports which allow us to improve upon impact associated with emissions from delivery transportation.

Potential impact can vary based on the municipality you live in and governing laws around recycling and reuse. Currently, Aveda offsets 100% of emissions in the U.S. caused by shipping from online orders.
What happens when the box is no longer usable? Or if the box rips or the zipper breaks?
At the discretion of Aveda boxes deemed no longer viable for use due to functional damage, cosmetics, or program needs will be set aside for end-of-life management. Aveda will work with Returnity to properly deconstruct and recycle the box and its components. Please help us also recover the ties by sending your used tie with your shipper to be recycled.
Are the boxes cleaned?
Boxes are surfaced cleaned after each use.
